The photo was taken by J.J. "Jimmy" Chisholm (my grandfather), at his home Hill Acres in the Cascade foothills above Fall City, Washington. The subjects in the picture are his son Jack Chisholm (my father) and the bear he'd shot and then carried home on foot.

This picture is from 1924 or there abouts.

The story is that there'd been a bear around which was dangerous for the farm, the animals and the few people who lived on isolated farms in the hills above Fall City. Jack had gone out with his rifle (I believe it was a .22) and had gotten the bear and carried it home.

There are also pictures of his little sister Alice sitting on the bear. (Those photos aren't posted anywhere on this site. Yet.)

I understand that the bear made good eating for a long time. The lovely fur from the bear was over a rocking chair in our house until about the 1980s when it got too moth eaten and basically shed to the point of not being fur any more.
