Dill Royle's Autograph Book |
|
This is a little book in a horizontal format about 3 inches tall and 5 inches wide. Brown with age and the handwriting is old fashioned and curly. The stickers are very Victorian in style and content.
Things in square brackets are my comments and annotations.

Dear Delia,

Then let us all be glad

Dear Delia,
We do not know, we cannot tell

Dear Delia:
A little word in kindness spoken
A motion or a tear,
Has often healed the heart that's broken,
And made a friend sincere.

Friend Delia,
May your cheeks retain their dimples
And your heart be just as gay,
Till some some manly voice shall whisper,
"Dearest" shall I name the day.

Dear Delia,
It is not always sunshine,
It is not always rain;
It is not always pleasure
Nor is it always pain.
Each cup must have its bitter,
Each cup must have its sweet.
And thorns as well as roses
Are waiting for our feet.

Dear Delia,
Ah, tell me not that memory
Shed gladness o'er the past;
What is recalled by faded flowers.
