Description of the letters themselves

This typewritten letter was in a three-ring binder of Jack Chisholm's letters and had another envelope stuck at the bottom, with a rusty paperclip -- which was the reply from Pete Anderson, which I've posted at the bottom of the page.

There was also, paperclipped on top of the envelope, a little folder saying "In Remembrance" which was the funeral card for Peter Enil Anderson. This would probably then been the last of the letters exchanged between Jack & Pete.

From Jack Chisholm to Pete Anderson

Snoqualmie Falls, Washington

July 22 1945

Dear Pete

We have a radio for you if you still need it. Mrs. MacManiman said you could have it in place of the one you gave Dad. They can use the 32 volt radio up there but can no use the 110 one even though they hav an AC 110 volt plant as they get too much static from it.

This radio is a table model, light and works wonderfully. I brought it home yesterday and tried it out. It was made since the war started but seems to be a good machine.

Jean is going to be out here next week and probably she will take the radio in to you or see that Doris gets it to pass on to you. Anyway it will get there some way.

If you are wondering just who the radio belongs to I think it would be best to consider it as borrowed from Dad for as long as you want it as the folks on the Hill are keeping the one that Dad left up there for them to use.

Dad and Mother were here yesterday. They are starting to build their new house but it looks to me like a big undertaking to try to build now when things are so high and so many things cannot be had at all. I will go down ther a few days soon to get it started but don't expect to get very far at a time on account of materials.

Well take care of yourself and come out when you can. We will try to drive around your way when we get a chance to go to town.

Peter E. Anderson

9529 Dayton Ave.

Seattle Wash.

Dear Jack.

You sure are a life saver. I do not know of anything I miss more than I do the radio and I sure apiciate your effot to get me one.

No, I am not wondering who the radio belongs to, I relize it is a loan and I'll take good care of it.

I would like to get out to Renton to give Jim a hand but right now I am not well enough to do anything. I'll try to get out to see the Folks but when I'll be able to make it. Soon I hope.

Hoping your all well and with best of wishes from your
Friend Peter

Notes

Jack Chisholm's parents were J.J."Jimmy" Chisholm and Lulan Royle Chisholm. The Chisholm's had been neighbors of Pete Anderson for many years back in the days when there were few people living up in those hills and they all knew each other.

At the time of this writing, Pete Anderson has moved to Seattle (I don't know whether he has a house, is with relatives, or is in an old folks home), Jimmy & Lulan Chisholm have moved to Renton, and Bob & Gen MacManiman had bought the log cabin that Jimmy Chisholm had built up in the hills above Fall City.

Jimmy & Lulan were living with Alice Chisholm Saunders (their daughter) & David Saunders and the two grandchildren at the time they were building a little house on the corner of the property in Renton. The reason they were able to get any materials at all in a time where EVERYTHING was going to the war effort is because Jimmy Chisholm had tuberculosis and it was thought a bad idea for him to be living in close quarters with two young children who might catch it. Therefore, he was able to get materials, eventually, and build a little house for himself and Lulan in Renton.

"Town" is what Jack always called Seattle. "Go to town" meant going into Seattle, which was about 30 miles away.

Address on Jack's letter is Snoqualmie Falls, but is for the place that we live now, which has a Fall City address. This place has also had a Snoqualmie address. It depends on where the officials think the town lines should be drawn this time.
