Letter from Jack Chisholm to Keith Chisholm

Dear Keith

I expect you will be home Labor Day but I thought I would write a note in case you don't. We haven't seen or heard of you since you headed over this way.

The folks have sold and will be moving a week from Saturday. So I will have to be back by that time to help. Last Saturday we hauled two loads of lumber to Renton. Dad tore down the chicken house closest to the barn. He won't get everything moved next time and will still have the cow, some chickens and the garden to look after.

I have had a cough since about the 4th of July. I got sick about the first of August and quit work and haven't gone back yet. I hope this dry air helps us. Irene's got it too.

It seems a lot of people have this cough. We have a cabin across the bridge.

Minne was run over by a car. Mrs. Murray called us up and told us. Minnie had been away most of the time lately.

Nora has six pups. Dad is selling them $25 apiece if he can get the papers on them, $15 or better if not.

We picked up about 100 pieces of petrified wood today so ought to have a good collection in a week.

I think Aunt Eve will be looking for you Labor Day.

He would have been writing the letter from somewhere in eastern Washington state where they were on vacation. They liked going east of the mountains, because it helped Irene's asthma.

The original is pencil on steno pad paper. Fortunately, he made a copy on the typewriter.

Keith Chisholm is the son of Eve Royle Chisholm ("Aunt Eve") and Alex Chisholm. He's Jack's double cousin.

Jack's parents, Lulan Royle Chisholm and Jimmy Chisholm, were moving from their farm "Hill Acres" in Fall City to Renton at this time.

Minne was a dog.

Jimmy Chisholm ("Dad") had at least one pure bred collie dog, which is why the papers. Somewhere in my collection of genealogy stuff is the AKC papers for one of the collies.
