Letter from Jack Chisholm to Jake Jones about dogs |
|
Snoqualmie Falls, Wash.
February 29, 1944
Dear Jake
When you were here the other day Mrs. Jones mentioned that you folks were looking for a small dog. At the time we did not know whether we were to be presented with small dogs or large dogs but now we know that they are to be fairly small because two of the pups are marked exactly like the only small black dog in the neighborhood. Just the mate we would have picked but they did not wait for their parents consent. And we brought her up very carefully too!
There were three pups born on George Washington's Birthday. The male is shiny black with a narrow streak of white on the chest. One of the females is black also and the other is white with brown ears.
We do not intend to keep any of them so if you want one of them you can have your pick. I suppose you would prefer a male. It costs ten dollars to have a female spaded and a crossed dog is hardly worth it. If they don't turn out well one hates to get rid of one that costs quite a bit. Anyway both parents of these are good dogs.
If you want one at all just let us know which one you would be interested in and we will save it and give away or dispose of the others as soon as they get to be too much for the mother. They are only about as big as a young chipmunk now and probably it will be a couple of weeks before they are big enough to tell anything about. The kids are hoping they will open their eyes today.
Let us know what Sunday you can come and we will have dinner and a big visit. Have Joe bring his violin too if he will.
Note from Jack Chisholm attached to copy of letter and dated September 9, 1982:
Irene recalls that she bought Daisy from Vern Douglas for $10. She was white like one of the pups. The white one was given to Joanne English and a little Snoqualmie boy got the male. Bonnie Rose was attached to the other little black one so we raised that one and she was Teddy who was with us many years.
I remember Teddy. I was born 1954, so she would have been ten years old at that time. I probably was about two or so when the little black dog kept growling at me. Teddy didn't like me much for some reason. I don't remember her being around later, but maybe Bonnie Rose had her at college (WSU) with her part of the time.
