John K. Chisholm
Funeral service for John Kenneth (Jack) Chisholm, 83, of Fall City is at 1 p.m. Thursday in Fall City United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Richard Coghill. Interment follows at Fall City Cemetery. Mr. Chisholm died Sunday at Overlake Hospital Medical Center.
Born June 24, 1904, in Seattle, to John J. and Lil Royle Chisholm, he moved to Hill Acres, near Fall City, when he was 5. As a child, he rode to school on horseback and once shot a bear as big as he was. After his marriage to Irene Margery Whitfield on May 26, 1931, the couple settled in the Spring Glen area where Mr. Chisholm built a three-story log home in which they lived for nearly 57 years.
Mr. Chisholm's occupations included fire warden; electrician, plumber and builder; bread delivery man; and Christmas tree cutter. During World War II, he manned an enemy plane lookout in the Snoqualmie Valley.
A former Boy Scout master, he also worked with members of the Snoqualmie tribe and was elected honorary chief of the tribe. His hobbies included turning photos he took into book gifts; writing letters and stories, especially for children; hunting, fishing and camping. A past president of the Snoqualmie Valley Sportclub, he was active in the Washington State Sportsman Association. A conservationist, he worked to preserve the elk population.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; son, Rod of Wichita, Kan.; daughters, Bonnie Rose of North Bend ad Penelope Chisholm of the family home; sisters, Alice Chisholm-Saunders of Renton, and Jean Garten of Mount Vernon; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home.
NOTES:
Journal American, I think. Local to here, anyhow.
He was born John Kenneth Chisholm, but legally changed his name to Jack Chisholm because that was what everyone called him. He was not actually John Kenneth Chisholm at the time of the obituary.
I'm not so sure it was honorary chief that he was elected to be. I suspect he was jokingly elected as chief as a pointed hint that he was being a bit more of a busy body than he needed to be.
They interviewed us, but didn't get all the points quite straight, naturally.
