Canadian Jays Make Their Home at Snoqualmie

Little Roddy Chisholm listens to this Canadian Jay tell that all the birds in the mountains will be on relief unless warmer weather makes its appearance. Roddy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chisholm, Snoqualmie.

Here, Papa Chisholm decides maybe he can coax one of the Jays to "look at the birdie" in his camera. The breadline visitor at the Snoqualmie home seems to like his experience. Perhaps it's the "food" served by the Chisholms. And maybe the climate has something to do with it.

Jays are a funny lot sometimes--and they have wee Bonnie Rose puzzled here. "Where did that bird go?" is the question. She's another of the Chisholms -- and popular with the feathered visitors.

What's this! Two little friends? Yes, and Mrs. Chisholm seems to be enjoying their little fight over the largest chunk of crumbs. She's reading to them while they conduct their "war". It is all in a day's work with these tiny feathered guests--and they appear to like it."

NOTES:

The address here was Snoqualmie for awhile. It's now Fall City. The county/cities kept moving lines and changing addresses. My parents kept updating people. Finally, relatives started saying, "But you'll have to tell us where you live now. You've moved so many times." They did not move and neither did the house.

My mother said that they'd airbrushed little beaks on the children's caps because those were popular in those days. The original caps didn't have beaks.

I believe that the location of these pictures was at Hill Acres, the home of Jack's parents.

1938 was during the time of the Great Depression when breadlines were a common thing.

Really old-fashioned cameras were the big box things on tripods and to get people to look in the right direction, the photographer would hold up a toy bird and say "look at the birdie".
